Leatherman OHT Review

Last updated on October 1st, 2023

Let’s check out the Leatherman OHT (one hand tool) and how it handled the last 12 months of use.

Multitools

Doing a lot of hunting, camping and trips to the range I have come to love having a multitool on hand. Even having one in a draw in the house has been great for quickly opening a package and tightening up a screw.

Having a huge variety of tools available in a solid compact unit means this multitool gets a workout when out camping or during a big range session. You can guarantee either yourself or someone there will need to use it at some point.

Leatherman

The company behind the most famous multitools in the world is Leatherman. They were founded in 1983 and are based out of Oregon in the USA. The founder wanted to create a strong multitool to replace the cheap poorly made ones available at the time.

Leatherman OHT

The OHT stands for ‘One Hand Tool’ and was first launched in 2012. The OHT is designed with military/emergency services in mind. Saying that, it doesn’t mean the average user wouldn’t get this tool and use it year after year.

All the tools on the OHT are on the outside of the tool. Also located on the body of the OHT you will see pictures of which tool folds out, making it simple to find what you are looking for.

The OHT comes in two main colours, black and tan. The set also comes with sheath which has a belt loop attached. Another great feature is the 25-year warranty offered by Leatherman on the tool.

Construction

If you have ever used a Leatherman multitool you will know how well built these are put together. The OHT is no exception and is built to a high standard. The rugged construction gives the tool some weight, however not enough to make wearing the OHT on a belt all day uncomfortable.

The blades on the OHT are made from 420HC steel. This ensures they wont tire from use and will stand up to a lifetime of work.

Tools

The tools on the OHT also include needle nose and regular pliers. The teeth on the pliers are very sharp and well made. The wire cutter inserts can also be replaced. The pliers are spring loaded and can be deployed with one hand as seen in our video.

A standout feature for the hunting and shooting folks is the cleaning rod/brush adapter on the tool. This is a nice addition with the firearm user in mind.

There are a total of 16 tools attached to the OHT which include:

  • Spring-action needle nose pliers
  • Spring-action regular pliers
  • Spring-action 164CM replaceable hard-wire cutters Serrated Blade
  • Spring-action 154CM replaceable wire cutters Large and Medium Flathead Screwdrivers
  • 420HC serrated knife
  • 420HC knife
  • Saw
  • #8-32 cleaning rod/brush adapter
  • Strap cutter
  • Bottle opener
  • Can opener
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Oxygen tank wrench
  • Large/medium/small screwdriver

Conclusion

The OHT is built for hard use and to tackle the most difficult tasks. The one-handed operation to use the pliers is testament to its practical design. The quality of all the tools on this Leatherman will not disappoint.

This piece of kit continues to be one of the best items in the range bag and the overwhelming volume of good reviews on the OHT continue to roll in.
