This ZeroTech Trace Advanced 5-30×56 review contains early field notes, not a completed PRS or long-term tracking test. What the Size Means on a Rifle
A 1,180g scope changes a rifle before rings, level, rail or data board are added. On a heavy 6mm Creedmoor target rifle that can be acceptable and may even contribute to a settled supported position. On a rifle carried through hills or fired quickly offhand, it is a major cost.
The 34mm tube requires matching rings and gives the internal system room for 35 MRAD of elevation. The 65mm outer objective diameter also affects ring height and accessory clearance. Japanese-Made Competition Design
ZeroTech positions the current Trace Advanced as a Japanese-made premium line with ED glass, a one-piece tube, argon purging and Weathershield lens treatment. It includes Tenebraex flip-up covers, a 56mm sunshade, neoprene cover, turret tool, reticle chart and cleaning cloth.
Those inclusions reduce the accessories needed after purchase. They do not prove optical resolution or mechanical accuracy by themselves. My full glass and tracking conclusions will remain open until the scope has been compared in repeatable conditions and dialled over a meaningful round count.
Magnification and 56mm Objective
The 5-30x range is designed for small targets, target identification and precise holds from stable positions. Five power is low enough to locate a target on a stage, while 30x helps inspect fine detail when light, mirage and position allow it. In actual long-range shooting, the most useful setting is often in the middle.
At 30x the listed exit pupil is 1.9mm, which makes eye position and available light more critical. Dropping magnification increases exit pupil, field of view and apparent stability. A good 5-30x should be judged by how well 12-22x works across changing conditions, not only by a showroom glance at maximum power.
The 56mm objective gives the optical system more light-gathering area but also drives ring height, mass and bulk. It does not automatically make the image brighter than every 50mm competitor; glass quality, coatings, magnification and exit pupil decide the view reaching the eye.
Turret Layout and Adjustment Range
The elevation turret is large and exposed for rapid dialling, with 0.1 MRAD clicks and a zero stop. Windage is capped, which suits the common competition method of dialling elevation and holding wind. ZeroTech’s protected-thread design keeps the turret body clean if a shooter chooses to remove the cap.
Thirty-five MRAD of listed elevation is useful for long-range centrefire and rimfire stages, although the amount available above a zero depends on rail cant, mount alignment and where the erector sits after zeroing. A canted rail can preserve more upward travel, but too much cant can create setup problems at short zero distances.
Initial control operation is not the same as verified tracking. My full test should include a measured vertical target, a multi-direction box test, return to zero after repeated revolutions and confirmation after recoil. Until those results exist, the article will describe the design rather than award a mechanical verdict.
RMG2, RMG3 and TREMOR3 Reticles
Reticle choice is central to this scope. The current RMG3 uses a fine floating centre, 0.2 MRAD subtensions and 0.1 MRAD measuring detail, with illumination intended to help at lower magnification and in low light. RMG2 is an earlier ZeroTech competition layout, while TREMOR3 provides a denser system of elevation, wind and correction references.

The 5-30 is not automatically better because every major number is larger. It adds 390g before mounts, narrows the low-power field and creates a bulkier rifle. Choose it when the elevation reserve, high-power detail and competition reticle justify that cost. Choose the 4-24 when movement, carrying and rifle balance matter more.
