After being impressed with my Horus HoVR 5-20×50 scope I was excited to see a new product on offer from Horus Vision, the HoVR 6.5-40×50 Spotting Scope.
Quick Take
The Horus HoVR 6.5-40×50 Spotting Scope is best judged by how it fits the rifle, not just by the spec sheet. Glass quality, reticle design, controls, mounting height and real-world use matter more than chasing one big headline number.
- Best use case: match the optic to the rifle?s actual job before worrying about brand hype.
- Check before buying: reticle style, eye relief, turret feel, weight and mounting requirements.
- Do not forget the mount: good rings and correct height are part of the optic system.
Horus Vision is owned by Nightforce Optics, who have a great reputation worldwide for producing high quality and rugged scopes. I’m glad to see that the battle proven traits from Nightforce optics have been inherited by Horus products.

One major difference that sets this spotting scope apart from its competitors is the included ranging reticle. Other popular spotting scope manufacturers offer similar reticles as an additional item that’s purchased separately. The spotting scope includes the TREMOR 4 reticle and operates on the first focal plane.

All controls for the spotting scope are located at the rear, with the magnification ring first, focus adjustment and finally the dipoter setting.

The HoVR 6.5-40×50 spotting scope and the TREMOR 4 reticle is designed to help spot corrections for long distance shooting. The Horus HoVR will definitely be on our list when upgrading from our current spotting scope. The HoVR spotting scope is currently priced at $1799 USD / $2695 AUD.

FAQ
Is the Horus HOVR 5-20×50 worth it?
The Horus HOVR 5-20×50 is worth considering if its magnification, reticle, glass quality and adjustment system match how you actually shoot. For rifle setup and shooting style, the biggest question is whether it gives you a clearer aiming solution than the optic you would otherwise buy.
Who is the Horus HOVR 5-20×50 best suited to?
It suits shooters who want an optic for rifle setup and shooting style and are willing to choose based on real features rather than brand name alone. Check the reticle, turret layout, weight and warranty before deciding.
What should I compare with the Horus HOVR 5-20×50?
Compare it against optics in the same role and price bracket. Look closely at glass clarity, turret tracking, reticle usability, low-light performance, weight and how easy it is to get support or accessories locally.
