The RivalX covers a wide magnification range from 4× to 32×. That gives you a broad field of view at the low end and enough magnification for precision at distance. It’s housed in a 34mm tube with a 5 mm objective lens and weighs 37oz (1,049 g), and measures 381 mm long.

The glass in Apex optics are where they standout. It uses Extra Low Dispersion Japanese ED glass paired with a seven layer ‘HTX™’ coating for high clarity, excellent light transmission, and reduced glare even in low light. It also comes with a sealed argon purged build for waterproof, fog proof, and shock resistant performance, something you’d need if you’re rough on gear or run high recoil calibers.
The RivalX’s adjustable turrets are made for long distance shooting in mind. You get 10 MIL per turn elevation adjustment with a zero‑stop and a pop up 2‑turn indicator. Windage matches with 10 MIL per turn as well, and both turrets click in 0.1 MIL increments. That pop up indicator makes it easier to know if you’re in your second rotation, handy under pressure.
Reticle-wise it features the Apex CLR™ (Competition Long Range) glass etched first focal plane reticle. It’s clean, uncluttered, offers holdover marks, and works across the whole magnification range. You also get six levels of red illumination, with an off position between each for precise control.

A unique feature is the first in industry se ‑through removable throw lever. It lets you shift magnification quickly, while still being able to see your turret settings through the lever. It even comes with flip up covers, sunshade, lens cloth, scope wrench, and manual in the box.

The original Apex Rival shares much of the hardware with the RivalX, same magnification, tube size, ED glass, and the CLR FFP reticle. It also has zero stop turrets, illumination, and an aluminium build. The key difference is turret design, the Rival uses 15 MRAD per turn turrets, while the RivalX steps this back to 10 MIL per turn. The RivalX also adds that pop up indicator and throw lever transparency feature. You’ll likely find the Rival a touch cheaper, Apex prices the Rival around USD 2,400 and the RivalX about USD 2,500.
The Apex RivalX 4-32×56 is hard to fault if you’re after a serious long range optic. It’s rugged, clear, more compact than you’d expect for what it offers, and built with shooter driven details like the pop up turret indicator and see through throw lever.
If you’re already looking at the Rival, note that the RivalX refines things with more user friendly turrets and added functionality for comps. Both are excellent, but the RivalX edges ahead in usability for fast paced competition or tactical work.
