The Mossberg Patriot LR Tactical was announced this time last year and adds another option for the budget minded long distance shooter. There are some interesting features in this rifle that are worth checking out.
Quick Take
The Mossberg Patriot LR Tactical makes the most sense when its handling, configuration and practical role match what you actually want to do with it. Specs matter, but ergonomics and setup matter just as much.
- Best use case: judge it against rifles or shotguns built for the same job.
- Check before buying: weight, trigger, magazine system, optic mounting and aftermarket support.
- Think system-first: optic, mount, bipod, case and ammunition often matter as much as the firearm itself.
It’s currently available in three calibers including 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC and 308 WIN. These cartridge offerings are great long-distance calibers to help you ring steel and no doubt we will see other options added in the future.
The stock is made by MDT and includes some ideal long distance shooting features such as adjustable cheek comb height and spacers to find the right length of pull. To assist in getting on target for long distance shooting the rifle has a 20 MOA Picatinny rail for mounting an optic. There are also M-LOK slots each side of the stock for adding accessories.
The trigger on the Mossberg Patriot LR Tactical is adjustable between 2 to 7 pounds. A MDT magazine is also included and the rifle takes AICS pattern magazines. The magazine release button is located just forward of the trigger guard.
The bolt is fluted and features an oversized bolt knob for ease of use. The barrel is a medium bull profile and is threaded for adding a muzzle brake or suppressor. Barrels are 22 inches long for the 6.5 Creedmoor and 24 inches on the 6.5 PRC rifles.
With a retail price being listed at a little under $1000 USD it’s an affordable rifle with some attractive features at the price point. Cant say I have seen these in Aus yet but ill be keeping an eye out.
