I have struggled to find a decent soft case that can properly fit a large rifle and optic. I end up taking a long Pelican case to the range which can be a mission to cart around. At a recent expo I came across Evolution Gear and their double rifle bag. What immediately stood out was how well padded and rugged the case was. The large zips and good level of padding sparked my interest.
Quick Take
The Evolution Gear 50″ Double Rifle Bag – Best Value for Secure Transport makes the most sense when its handling, configuration and practical role match what you actually want to do with it. Specs matter, but ergonomics and setup matter just as much.
- Best use case: judge it against rifles or shotguns built for the same job.
- Check before buying: weight, trigger, magazine system, optic mounting and aftermarket support.
- Think system-first: optic, mount, bipod, case and ammunition often matter as much as the firearm itself.

I asked for a review copy to drag through the bush and got hold of the 50” soft case in desert tan to test how it would go with a few of my setups. I always choose durable cases for my rifles as I don’t want my optics to get damaged during travel. A well padded soft case is perfect for trips out to the range, as a soft case is easier to transport, not being as bulky as a hard case.
The Evolution Gear double rifle bag features high quality zips and an external pocket for accessories that need to be accessed easily. The TRG was easily secured using one of my favorite features of this bag, the MOLLE straps. These can be moved positions within the bag and help to secure the firearm.

Precision rifles can get heavy but the durable carry handle is built to take the loaded up bag.
Foam padding including a padded divider, give the rifle great protection during transport. You can also remove the divider if you need more room inside the bag. The padded corners in the case help protect the barrel and buttstock in transit. There is also velcro on the outside for adding a patch a two.

The 50” length of the bag fits my TRG well with its 26” barrel. It also works well with shorter firearms such as my TAC-12 shotgun or Sako 85 Finnlight. Its got plenty of room and fits two rifle up to 1250mm long.
Evolution Gear is Australian owned and operated, located in Melbourne, Australia. Evolution Gear also make a range of protective cases. The bag is available in a shorter size and in desert tan, black and olive drab. Coming in with a retail price of $195 AUD with free shipping Australia wide, you can checkout the double rifle bag here
