What Changed With the ICON 6 Pack System?
ICON 6 is KUIU’s sixth-generation frame-pack platform, not a renamed PRO pack. KUIU says the new frame, suspension and bags share no key components with earlier ICON or PRO systems. That matters for anyone shopping the outlet or used market: an inexpensive older bag is not a spare ICON 6 bag.
The practical changes are a taller and wider thermoplastic carbon frame, a broader suspension, a revised bag shape that holds weight higher and closer to the body, and a simpler load-sling setup. The 4500 Divide is the most balanced current ICON 6 option. Its 74-litre capacity is aimed at up to three self-supported days, but the removable lid takes it down to roughly 66 litres for a gear-heavy day hunt. A dedicated Divide pocket keeps a rifle or tripod close to the frame instead of hanging weight on the outside of the pack.

2. ICON 6 3500: Best for Gear-Heavy Day Hunts
The ICON 6 3500 is KUIU’s current frame-based day pack. At 57 litres and 5 lb 1.5 oz / 2.31 kg complete, it is much larger than the name “day pack” may suggest. That volume makes sense for winter layers, a spotting scope, tripod, food, water and pack-out equipment. It is excessive for a light walk with a jacket and lunch.
Choose it over the Divide 1500 when the reason for buying is load transfer and hauling rather than simple storage. Choose the 4500 instead if short overnights are likely; the step up buys more flexibility without moving into a weeklong pack.
3. Divide 1500: Best Compact KUIU Day Pack
The Divide 1500 is still the clean answer for a controlled day load. In my testing it was comfortable with roughly 10 to 15 kg, easy to organise and useful for both hunting and travel. That does not turn it into an ICON 6 substitute. It is for hunters who value a compact bag more than a dedicated heavy-hauling frame.

4. Venture Divide 2000: Best for Organised Optics Carry
The Venture Divide 2000 sits between a compact day pack and a full frame system. Its 33-litre volume and divided layout suit hunters carrying assembled optics, a tripod or a rifle in a more controlled position. KUIU lists it at 4 lb 5 oz / 1.956 kg, so the organisation comes with a noticeable empty-weight cost.
I would choose it for the carry layout, not because 2000 cubic inches sounds like the perfect number. If you only want a simple bag, the Divide 1500 is lighter. If meat hauling is a core requirement, move to ICON 6 rather than asking this pack to be something it is not.
5. Ranger 2200: Best Supportive Non-Modular Day Pack
The Ranger 2200 offers 36 litres and an internal aluminium frame at a listed 2 lb 15.9 oz / 1.36 kg. It is a useful middle ground for hunters who want more structure and room than the Divide 1500 without committing to the cost and weight of ICON 6.
The limitation is important: the Ranger does not separate into KUIU’s load-sling mode. It can carry a fuller day load, but it should not be bought on the assumption that it is a small modular meat-hauling frame pack.
6. ICON 6 6000: Best for Weeklong Hunts
The 6000 is the current sweet spot for a weeklong self-supported trip. KUIU lists 98 litres with the lid and 87 litres lidless, with a complete weight of 6 lb 2.4 oz / 2.79 kg. The horseshoe opening gives access to the main compartment without unpacking everything from the top.
This is the size to compare when a sleep system, food, optics, spare layers and a rifle or bow all need a defined place. For one or two nights it can be compressed, but the 4500 is the more disciplined choice if weeklong capacity is rarely needed.
7. ICON 6 8200: Best for Extended Expeditions
At 134 litres, the ICON 6 8200 is designed for ten or more self-supported days. It weighs 6 lb 7.4 oz / 2.93 kg complete and uses an extended upper shroud for the extra capacity. This is a specific tool for long, remote trips, not the “best” pack simply because it is the biggest.
Buy it when the food and equipment list proves the need. Otherwise, an oversized bag makes it easier to carry gear that should have stayed at home and is less convenient during normal day hunting.

Set the pack up with 30 to 40 lb before judging it. The belt should sit over the top of the hip bones, the shoulder straps should wrap cleanly and the load lifters should add contact without pulling all pressure onto the shoulders. A quick empty-pack try-on tells you very little.
