The Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker is a new bolt action rifle blending a modern chassis design with hunting-rifle features. It is part of Springfield’s Model 2020 family of rifles and was launched in 2025. The Heatseeker comes in .308 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor. It features a lightweight Sharps Brothers chassis and a short carbon fibre barrel. The design aims to give shooters precision and easy carrying weight on long hunts.

The Heatseeker uses Springfield’s custom Model 2020 action. This bolt-action mechanism has two locking lugs and a fluted, push-feed bolt. The bolt head is counter-bored for safety in case of a cartridge failure. The action runs on precise guide rails for smooth operation. It has a TriggerTech Field trigger that can be adjusted from about 2.5 to 5 pounds (1.1 to 2.2 kilograms) of pull weight. This makes it easy to tailor the trigger to your shooting style. The bolt handle is large and textured for a good grip. The magazine is an Accuracy International-style steel box magazine that holds five rounds and fits flush with the chassis. There is an ambidextrous magazine release paddle in front of the trigger guard.

The barrel on the Heatseeker is 16 inches long. It is made of steel with a carbon fibre sleeve around it. The barrel is spiral-fluted and finished in a dark-brown Cerakote. The carbon wrap makes the barrel lighter and stiffer. The muzzle is threaded with 5/8×24 threads, a common pattern for brakes or suppressors. Springfield includes a screw-on thread protector and a muzzle brake. The barrel twist rate matches the cartridge: 1:10 in .308 and 1:8 in 6.5 Creedmoor. Springfield guarantees the Heatseeker will shoot 0.75 MOA or better right out of the box.
The chassis of the Heatseeker is made by Sharps Brothers. It is machined from aluminium and finished in Coyote Brown Cerakote. The chassis has a free-floating M-LOK handguard about 14 inches long, with slots for mounting accessories. The handguard also has quick-detach sling sockets on the sides. It is built to use AR-15 parts. For example, it has a standard AR buffer tube for the stock and accepts AR pistol grips. The action has a Picatinny rail mounted on top for optics. Springfield ships the rifle with a B5 Systems Collapsible Precision Stock. This stock has adjustable length of pull and an adjustable cheekpiece.

Despite all the features, the Heatseeker is fairly light. The empty rifle weighs about 3.37 kilograms (around 7 pounds 7 ounces). The overall length is about 90 centimetres with the stock collapsed, and about 99 centimetres with it extended. For comparison, many tactical chassis rifles weigh over 4 kilograms. The Heatseeker’s short barrel and carbon-fibre construction help keep the weight down. This makes it easier to carry on long walks or on the range. It also balances well so you can shoot from a bipod or sandbag without being too front-heavy.
The rifle is aimed at hunters and precision shooters who like modern rifles. It is built for long-range use, including precision rifle matches. The carbon-fibre barrel cools quickly and the chassis stays firm under recoil. It is suppressor-ready with a threaded muzzle and a fitted muzzle brake. Tested with a bipod and suppressor attached, the rifle kept hitting targets well. The adjustable stock helps fit different shooters or shooting positions. It uses a 5-round AICS magazine so spare magazines from other rifles will work.
Compared to other rifles, the Heatseeker mixes features of a hunting rifle and a precision rifle. It is similar in concept to rifles like the Ruger Precision, but it comes ready with a chassis and carbon-fibre barrel. It does not need a separate stock or accessories. It is also lighter than many comparable rifles. Springfield backs it with a clear accuracy guarantee. Overall, the Heatseeker is a serious, high-end chassis rifle aimed at accurate shooting.
