ZeroTech has released the Trace X 5-25×56 FFP, adding three illuminated models to its Trace lineup. The new scope pairs a 34mm main tube and a 56mm objective with a zero-stop elevation turret, capped windage and a choice of RMG-H MRAD, RMG 3 MRAD or RMG-H MOA reticles.
Australian pricing is A$1,299 across all three versions. ZeroTech positions the range for precision competition and hunting, with the same core optical and mechanical specifications whichever reticle you choose.
Three reticle choices
The RMG-H is ZeroTech’s precision hunting design. The MRAD version has fine references with 0.1 and 0.2 MRAD resolution, while the MOA version uses 0.5 and 1 MOA references. Both carry windage and elevation markings into their heavier outer bars, with illumination at the centre.
The RMG 3 takes a different approach, with a floating centre cross and 0.2 MRAD increments offering 0.1 MRAD resolution. Its graduated grid below the centre is the most obvious visual difference from the more open RMG-H layout.
All three sit in the first focal plane, so their subtensions remain consistent as magnification changes. ZeroTech also highlights illumination as a way to make the fine reticle easier to pick up at lower magnification.

Adjustment and controls
The two MRAD models use 0.1 MRAD clicks and provide 34 MRAD of total elevation adjustment, plus 17 MRAD of windage. The MOA version uses quarter-MOA clicks, with 116 MOA of elevation and 58 MOA of windage. Those figures describe total internal travel, rather than elevation remaining above your rifle’s zero.
The exposed elevation turret has a zero stop, while a cap covers the windage adjustment. Side parallax runs from 20 metres to infinity. At the rear, the dioptre has a -3 to +2 adjustment range and a lock ring to retain its setting.
Illumination is controlled by a push button on the end of the parallax turret. There are six brightness settings, powered by a CR2032 battery, and an automatic shut-off after approximately two hours.

Glass, size and construction
The optical system includes a German SCHOTT internal glass element and fully multi-coated lenses. Eye relief is 97mm, and field of view at 100 metres runs from 8.3 metres at 5x to 1.6 metres at 25x.
The Trace X measures 376mm long and weighs 883g. Its matte-black main tube is made from 6061-T6 aluminium, and the scope carries an IPX7 waterproof rating. The objective housing has a 64mm outside diameter.
Included are a neoprene scope cover, rubber bikini-style lens covers, hex keys and a microfibre cloth. The scope is covered by ZeroTech’s transferable Triple A lifetime warranty.
I’m keen to get hands-on with one for a more in-depth look.
