Garmin Xero C1 Pro vs C2: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

The Garmin Xero C2 adds new ways to record sessions and connect with other devices. If you already own a Xero C1 Pro, the question is whether those features will make enough difference to justify replacing it.

My recommendation is to keep the C1 Pro if it already does everything you need. Consider the C2 when a specific feature would remove a regular annoyance, or when you are buying your first chronograph and the price difference is modest. The extra features need to be useful in your normal range routine.

What the Xero C2 adds

Garmin’s C2 launch announcement highlights faster processing, a resume-session function, compatible smartwatch integration and direct Applied Ballistics connectivity. Rapid-fire recording is another addition. For most C1 Pro owners, the practical appeal is easier session management and data transfer.

Resume Session lets you return to an earlier session instead of starting a new record. That is useful when you want to keep results together after a break. With a compatible Garmin watch, you can also access session controls and view chronograph data from your wrist.

For the original model’s handling and everyday usability, start with my Garmin Xero C1 Pro review. It covers the practical side of living with the C1 Pro, which is worth considering alongside the C2’s additional features.

Check the Applied Ballistics subscription

According to Applied Ballistics’ current licensing information, connecting the Xero C2 to AB Quantum requires an AB Quantum Pro subscription. A connected device with an Elite or Pro hardware licence does not automatically unlock those separate subscription extras.

If you already pay for Quantum Pro, that subscription cost is already covered. Otherwise, allow for the recurring fee as well as the chronograph purchase. Check the app and phone requirements before ordering, particularly if the AB connection is the feature you want most.

Garmin’s acquisition of Applied Ballistics is worth following, but I would base an upgrade on the C2 features and subscription terms available today.

Is the C2 more accurate?

Faster processing and more connections are not, by themselves, evidence of a more accurate velocity measurement. I would not justify replacing a satisfactory C1 Pro on that assumption. A useful accuracy comparison needs a reliable reference and controlled testing. Different readings from two chronographs do not establish which one is closer to the true velocity.

Convenience is the clearer reason to upgrade. If recording sessions and managing the results take more time than you would like, the C2’s new tools may be valuable even when you are satisfied with the C1 Pro’s measurements.

Buying new, keeping your C1 or buying used

For an existing owner, compare the C2 purchase price with the realistic resale value of the C1, plus any subscription you would add. For a first-time buyer, compare complete packages: warranty, local support, included accessories and the landed price in your currency.

A discounted C1 can still be a sensible purchase. With a used example, ask about battery condition, charging, screen damage and whether the seller can demonstrate normal operation. A small saving is less appealing when there is no clear return option. Conversely, avoid paying almost-new money for an older unit just because the original retail price was high.

For current US listings, check the Garmin Xero C2 at EuroOptic. Australian buyers should confirm shipping eligibility and support arrangements before comparing that price with a local offer.

Choose the C2 if you will use its connectivity and session features regularly. If you mainly want straightforward velocity readings and your C1 Pro is working well, I would keep it.
